Student opportunities and activities

At Hurstville Public School, we offer a variety of programs in the classroom and across the school to help students build new skills, make friends and explore new interests.

Our programs include:

• school sport, athletics and inter-school competitions

• creative and performing arts groups and showcases

• cultural and language activities

• excursions and incursions

• public speaking and debating

• interest-based clubs

• student leadership opportunities

• activities that support high potential and gifted learners.

Our extra-curricular highlights

Debating and public speaking

Students can develop their thinking, communication and teamwork skills through debating and public speaking. They also have the chance to compete in local and state events.

Creative and performing arts

Our drama, music and art programs help students be creative and express themselves. They can join in concerts, art shows and drama activities.

Trips and excursions

Our students enjoy getting out of the classroom to explore, learn and try new things. These experiences help them grow, build confidence and see how their learning connects to the world.

School swimming carnival

Mr. Steed and the children had a great day at the annual swimming carnival.

Botany Zone swimming carnival

Our incredible HPS students proudly represented our school at the Botany Bay Zone Carnival.

Competing with determination, teamwork and outstanding sportsmanship, our students gave their very best in every event. We are so proud of the way they supported one another, demonstrated resilience and showcased our school values throughout the day.

Southeast Symphonic Wind ensemble

We are proud to announce that 12 Hurstville PS students have been successful in their auditions for the Sydney Southeast Symphonic Winds ensemble:

2026 marks the 32nd year of the Sydney Southeast Symphonic Winds ensemble (formerly known as the Sydney Region Band), a prestigious program dedicated to providing advanced music education and performance opportunities for talented students in Years 5–9 attending public schools across the Sydney region.

SKH Ho Chak Wan Primary School

In March, we were delighted to welcome 32 students and 5 adults from SKH Ho Chak Wan Primary School for a vibrant half-day study tour.

Our visitors explored the school on a guided tour, soaking in the HPS environment, before jumping into a fun and engaging classroom activity alongside our students.

It was a wonderful opportunity to share learning, build connections, and create memorable experiences together.
