Celebrating 150 years of Public Education
150 Years of Hurstville Public School
Hurstville Public School has proudly served the Hurstville community since 1876, standing on its Forest Road site for 150 years as generations of students, families and staff have learned, grown and contributed to the life of the school. Established after local residents successfully petitioned for a public school, HPS opened its doors in the same year and has remained an important part of the area’s history ever since.
Located on the lands of the Bidjigal people of the Eora Nation, our school’s story is connected to the broader history of Hurstville and the Georges River area. From its early beginnings as a small public school to the large, diverse and vibrant school community we know today, Hurstville Public School has continued to reflect the changing community it serves.
As we celebrate 150 years in 2026, we honour the students, staff, families and community members who have shaped our school’s history. We also look forward with pride and optimism, continuing our commitment to public education, community connection and helping every student strive for success.
